The American Tinnitus Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the relief, prevention, and the eventual cure of tinnitus for the benefit of present and future generations.
The American Tinnitus Association (ATA) was founded in 1971 by a California doctor with tinnitus, Dr. Charles Unice, initially to fund research. However, the need for information as well as research was immediately apparent. What began as a volunteer-staffed organization in closet-sized office space within the Oregon Health Sciences University complex in Portland, Oregon quickly grew.
Today, ATA is national nonprofit, voluntary human health & welfare agency with over 18,000 dues-paying supporters, a full time staff, and a Board of Directors and a Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of respected professionals. It is based in Portland, Oregon, with supporters from all over the world.
