Insonus Implantable

August 2000

InSonus Medical Inc is working on a new hearing aid that is implanted in the ear canal without requiring surgery. The company claims that that the device, which weighs less than a gram, is the world’s most efficient and smallest hearing enhancement device. Because they require less than 10% of the power of a standard hearing aid, the company expects them to operate on a single battery for up to six months.

The product will be implanted within the ear canal in a five-minute non-surgical procedure. InSonus is developing a proprietary fitting system that allows a doctor to dispense advanced hearing products in a single visit of under 1 hour. This rapid fitting process is in contrast to conventional methods, which may require multiple visits spanning a period of 3-4 weeks.
